nevermindThere was a part of me that didn't want to post a retrospective on the 20th Anniversary of NIRVANA's NEVERMIND, as we've already covered the hell out of it here at Kik Axe Music™. The PR machine has done a fine job of keeping the album fresh in all of our minds in hopes that we'll spend some money on it again when the reissues arrive this Tuesday, but today is the day.

Today - September 24th, 2011, NEVERMIND is twenty years old. Overkill or not, I've decided to share a few of my personal experiences with the record.

seger125climaxSome of the folks that know me well are familiar with a long-running rumor that I hate Bob Seger. That's not really accurate.

The truth is, that I hate the song Old Time Rock and Roll, and I don't particularly enjoy Like A Rock. I hold such a digust for Old Time Rock and Roll that I actually did tell the DJ at my own wedding that he would not be paid if he played the song (he complied). The opening notes alone are horrifying, and I could easily write paragraphs about my overall dislike of the song. Regardless, due to my relationship with the music of Mr. Seger, it was quite a surprise when remastered copies of LIVE BULLET and NINE TONIGHT showed up on CD here at Kik Axe HQ last week.

nirvanarapeYou know what's really punk rock? Charging someone $170 bucks to celebrate an album that's already sold over 30 million copies over the course of the past two decades.

The 20th Anniversary of NIRVANA's NEVERMIND is fast-approaching, and while we've covered the multiple configurations of Anniversary reissues here at Kik Axe Music™, it didn't hit me until tonight that the one that most people will want has an MSRP of $169.68. What fucking idiot over at Universal Music (which still uses the 'Geffen' or 'DGC' name to move units on occasion) decided that it would be acceptable to charge that for a five-disc box set?

over127cd--MAN OR ASTRO-MAN? pretty much rule the planet, and since they're reissuing their 1994 compilation YOUR WEIGHT ON THE MOON next month (October 4 via Overground Records), the surf-rockers are blasting off from Astro HQ for a run of tour dates that start right here in the Midwest (where Kik Axe HQ is hidden) and wrapping up where the Devil went down in Georgia. The new version of YOUR WEIGHT contains all the songs from the original 10-inch EP along with earlier cuts and previously-unreleased tracks, all packaged nicely with a 16-page booklet. Tour dates below...

51bQQuzs6eL._AA115_No official announcement has been made, but Amazon.com is taking pre-orders for what appears to be a 10th Anniversary Edition of the 2001 SLIPKNOT album, IOWA. Dated for October 18th, the pre-order page (FYI - we get no commission from Amazon thanks to Illinois Governor/Fuckhead Pat Quinn) only lists the release as being 2-Discs. While information has not arrived through official channels just yet, you may recall that a similiar re-issue arrived in 2009 to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of their debut album.
