I don't have the data to back it up 100%, but as the music industry really started to dive a few years back, I noticed that it seemed the numbers of signings, releases, and overall news seemed to start going up. I believe that the vast majority of labels have started padding the hell out of their rosters so that the sheer quantity of albums in release allows the company structure to survive while the artists make less than ever. Yesterday alone, over 100 press releases landed here at Kik Axe Music™ HQ - on a Wednesday... in January. I need a number cruncher, and some new posting zombies. That said, here's another edition of The Random Rock - quick news items on over 40 bands that span all areas of rock. Indie, Punk, Death Metal, Black Metal, Stinky Metal, Radio Rock - all of it.
When I first called 2011 "The Year that Pop Punk Strikes Back!" this past February, there were some people that threw up a middle finger in the general direction of Kik Axe Music™. Most embraced the possibility. Here we are in the last quarter of the year, and you can either call me right - call yourself deaf and blind - or just say that Pop Punk never went away. Regardless, NEW FOUND GLORY is one of the genre's most reliable battle squads, and having an entry from the Florida rockers in the year is indeed the topping on an already-overloaded sundae.
We told you early on that 2011 would be The Year That Pop Punk Strikes Back! and while a few folks didn't agree, we think you can call us right now. Pop Punk legends NEW FOUND GLORY are streaming their new album RADIOSURGERY over at AltPress this week, but to hear it prior to it's October 4th release via Epitaph Records - you'll need to do some "Radio Surgery" of your own. Based on the classic board game OPERATION, you'll need to move some broken pieces from a radio in order to access each track.
So much rock, so little time. Today's installment of The Random Rock was meant to be posted nearly 20 hours ago, but I got busy doing something else and never posted it. So, here's quick updates on over 25 artists and bands from around the rock music spectrum. Indie, Metal, Doom, Prog, Death Metal, Metalcore, Hardcore, Applecore, it's all here. There's even a dash of punk rock and maybe something extra, too. This is our way of getting coverage to as many acts as possible, big and small alike. It's The Random Rock for Wednesday, September 24, 2011.
Over the past few weeks we've reached an interesting milestone here at Kik Axe Music™ - we're big enough that on the busiest of days I find over 500 emails landing in my inbox, but we're not quite big enough yet to get some extra help in sorting all the mail [Note: CORPKA does more than just this site] and posting stories. Since I can't clone myself yet, but still want to spread the Sonic Gospel on as many artists as possible, it's time for another installment of The Random Rock. Here's short updates on 32 bands and artists, randomly snagged from my recent emails and coverage pitches for Monday, September 19th, 2011.
There's been a bunch of signings that have hit our inboxes over the past week, and while some may feel the music industry is fucked (it is), bands are still getting deals here and there. Here's a sampling of the deals made in the past week. It's like the United Nations of Rock...
