Last month, while most of the music industry took their annual ''holiday break,'' the rock continued here in Illinois. Rather than sit back for a couple weeks of self-congratulatory year-end back-patting as many do, I was looking ahead into 2012 and, provided the Mayan Prophecies are false, well beyond. Kik Axe Music™ was set to begin it's third year of operation, and, as I was starting to wrangle some exclusive content for the site, a few contests, a few surprises, etc. - I had a realization: I don't want to do this anymore.
The legendary NAPALM DEATH will be releasing their 14th studio album, Utilitarian, on February 27th in Europe and February 28th in North America, so be prepared for a new grind classic coming soon! In anticipation of this release, the band has now launched an ''Occupy Napalm'' Facebook tab to show their support for the Occupy movement and to provide fans with the latest news about their politically-charged Utilitarian. With downloadable Occupy-themed stencils and screensavers, plus a special video teaser for Utilitarian created by Mitch Harris (guitar, vocals), this Facebook tab is the place to go for everything NAPALM DEATH!
ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL, the world’s largest touring heavy music festival is back for its fifth year, and the lineup is arguably it's best yet. The mighty SLIPKNOT will headline, followed by SLAYER, and a ''major special guest'' TBA on March 5th.
SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR frontman COREY TAYLOR and SLIPKNOT percussionist M. SHAWN CRAHAN have just returned from the 2012 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL, where they held a launch party and acoustic show for LIVING BREATHING FILMS, their new film production company (read the full announcement here) that will specialize in (but not be limited to) mystery, suspense and horror. The duo created a short film titled THY SHALT I which was shown as a special treat for attendees of the launch party. You can now view the 15-minute film in it's entirety, right here on Kik Axe Music™.
We're all pretty excited that GARBAGE has a new studio album on the way, and today more release details hit the Kik Axe Newsroom. Check out the press release below!
Garbage today announced the launch of their record label, STUNVOLUME. The band will self-release its highly anticipated upcoming studio album later this spring. STUNVOLUME will be distributed by Fontana in the United States. Around the world, Garbage will release their album on STUNVOLUME via licensing deals with Cooperative Music in Asia, Europe and Latin America, Liberator Music/The Mushroom Group in Australia and New Zealand, Sony in Japan and Universal Canada in Canada.
The mighty EVERLAST is about to hit the road in support of his recent release SONGS OF THE UNGRATEFUL LIVING, but unfortunately he's going out with SUBLIME WITH ROME. Aside from sounding like a mixed drink now, can they just go away? Bands get new frontmen all the time, so the fact that they ''legally'' have to call themselves ''Sublime with Rome'' bothers me to. Fuck the system. They're just SUBLIME, but they fuckin' suck now anyway. Go see EVERLAST, though!
My unpopular opinion in the entertainment circles: The ''Occupy Movement'' is not accomplishing, nor will it accomplish anything in the long run. The majority of it's followers are just that - followers, those with no leadership ability whatsoever, nor do they have any suggestions for how to solve our Nation's problems. They're sheep looking for something to identify with - a group in which they feel they fit in. They're no different than most of those aligned with any political party, religion, or club. Plus, they think that ''revolution'' can come from non-violent protest, and to that I say the joke is on them. That said, they still have a good soundtrack.
Get ready to get nasty. 2 LIVE CREW frontman Luther Campbell announced this weekend at the Sundance Film Festival that he's pulling a Blues Brothers and getting the band back together. While promoting a short film called THE LIFE AND TIMES OF FREAKY LUKE, Campbell (who once felt the wrath of STAR WARS overlord George Lucas over the name ''Luke Skyywalker Records'') confirmed that the group was reactivated and that he ''can't wait to just start practicing.''
American Capitalism will be heading to the Great White North this spring. FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has announced they will tour Canada as well as the Western US beginning this March, with legendary SOULFLY as support, as well as WINDOWPANE and PERSIST. 5FDP will headline Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and more, while also playing a special Las Vegas hometown show alongside other western-US markets.
Are you craving a return to the glory days of the music industry? If so, MTV is reluctantly getting ready to spin you right back into the year 2000 when boy bands like *NSYNC, BACKSTREET BOYS, LFO, 98 DEGREES, and O-TOWN dominated the charts and wet the panties of the masses. That's right, the big story to kick off the week is that 2GETHER is getting back 2ge+her for a new TV movie and reunion concert.
