A+ R A-

qrchaosWanna hear a joke?  For the past 30 years, most fans have praised QUEENSRŸCHE for their ability to morph and expand their musical repertoire in lieu of just cranking out the same shit over and over  (much to the record companies chagrin after early chart topping hits like “Silent Lucidity” and “Empire”, I’m more than sure).  Even HEAR IN THE NOW FRONTIER, the first QR release fans and critics alike aggressively panned, eventually spawned a couple of radio regulars (including the killer grinder “Sign Of The Times”) and found it’s way into the hearts of the hardcore QR fanbase.  So why is everyone so surprised that DEDICATED TO CHAOS would be any different, and why are the internet squawkers being such dicks about it? Ironically (here’s where the joke’s punch line comes in), doesn’t that actually make it exactly the same?  Shouldn’t we expect each new release to be it’s own beast, both lyrically and musically?  Guess the old adage is true- you can’t please every-fucking-body every-fucking-time….

SIN-ATRAWhat a shame. A concept with vast potential is met with poor execution to equal a sonic travesty...

When I first mentioned back in January that there was a metal tribute to FRANK SINATRA on the way, I said I'm not quite sure how I feel about this - curious, worried, or excited. When we previewed the first three tracks a few weeks ago, I was fairly confident that my answer was disgusted. Now, with the release of SIN-ATRA (out today via Eagle Rock), that feeling has been amended to be disgusted and angry.

sin-atra-kikaxe125I'm not quite sure how I feel about this - curious, worried, or excited - but there's a metal tribute to FRANK SINATRA on the way, and we've got the cover art and details. While no U.S. date is firmed up just yet, Armoury Records will be releasing SIN-ATRA on March 29th in Europe.

namm125newFounded in 1901, the NAMM Show is one of the largest music product trade shows in the world. Held every January, it's a massive congregation of Music Product Exhibitors unveiling thousands of new products. Last year saw nearly 1,400 exhibitors and 88,000 attendees (though the Show is not open to the public).

I drove down to the Anaheim Convention Center (Near Archbishop Mickey Mouse) for three continuous days of cacophonous crescendos of caterwauling guitars.

queensrycheHoly fucking ‘where’d the time go’, Batman!

It’s hard to believe that two decades have passed since this epic album first hit the racks, and even after all that time it still holds up as a classic example of progressive metal done right.  No, that’s an understatement- “Empire” was a sonic feast of diversity that crossed the line and did what other prog acts either failed or feared to do, and that’s crossover into the mainstream record buying public’s consciousness.  BIG time.

queensrycheFour-time Grammy nominees Queensryche have signed a multi-album, worldwide deal with Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records. The band’s label debut –their twelfth studio album overall- is tentatively scheduled for a Spring 2011 release. Singer and founder Geoff Tate remains the creative nucleus of the band, which continues to make relevant, against-the-grain hard rock that entices fans, both new and diehard.
